Community Workshop 7 Oct at Wigwam
Violet Township Comprehensive Plan
The township is updating its 2005 Land Use Plan with the help of MS Consultants and a 10-member citizens’ steering committee. A community workshop will be held October 7th from 6-9pm at the Wigwam. Residents of the unincorporated township will shortly receive a postcard inviting them to attend.
Trustees’ announcement of the update occurred about the same time as their denial of Rockford Homes’ application for high-density housing on Toll Gate Road. If one looks at a current map of the township, high density housing developments have progressed across the northern portion of the township in the vicinity of SR 204 and Refugee Road almost unabated despite citizens’ concerns for the impact on schools, traffic and quality of life. What is left for housing developers to covet? The farmland that lies along the east and southeast portions of the township. Surveys conducted as part of the plan update clearly show residents’ desire to preserve farmland and protect natural areas. And residents value the rural character, what’s left of it, of the township.
However, a major issue for the updated plan is where commercial development should occur. Please attend the workshop on October 7th and familiarize yourself with the committee’s work to date at visionforviolet.com. The future of the township lies in all our hands, make your voice heard.
