Violet Residents Petition for Zoning Code Change Fails to Make the Ballot

September 13, 2021 the Fairfield County Board of Elections declined to hear the Violet Residents for Responsible Development evidence-based challenge of their denial of our referendum initiative petition.

The Board cites, among other reasons, there was no statutory processes for a referendum proponent to challenge a finding by the county board of election that a petition contained an insufficient number of signatures.

Our petition was short by 7 signatures.  The Board of Elections determined many signatures to be “Not Genuine”, meaning the Board didn’t believe the signature collected matched the signature on file.  Our intent was to provide affirmative proof that the signatures were genuine and that the Board of Elections had improperly flagged those signatures.

At this time, VR4RD has chosen not to pursue additional legal alternatives and, instead, we have shifted our focus to ensuring we have the right Trustees leading our Township in 2022.
